iTunes to release indie exclusives

itunes.com

By Cortney Harding, N.Y.

The recently launched iTunes "Indie Spotlight" store will kick off a series of exclusives later today, Billboard.biz has learned.

The exclusives will start with a pre-release of new Crystal Antlers album "Tentacles" (Touch and Go) with exclusive tracks, a Stone's Throw label sampler, Angus & Julia Stone's "A Book Like This" (Nettwerk) and Say Hi's "Oohs and Aahs" (Barsuk). Next Tuesday, the store will stock exclusives from Junior Boys and Diplo.

Eothen Alapatt, who manages Stone's Throw, says he sees Apple's indie store as a return to their roots. "Now that all of the majors who used to bypass iTunes in search of shelf space at Best Buy or Walmart are 'encroaching' on our 'turf' it's nice to know that Apple is giving us a leg up and showing that the love they showed us, early on, wasn't a flash," he said. "They were serious."

Bossip is reporting that Nas & Kelis may be on their way to splitsville.

nas and kelis

A highly placed source from the Kelis camp tells Bossip that Kelis and Nas may be headed towards divorce.

The well placed source exclusively tells Bossip:

“They fight all the time and both of them are mean to each other. I think it’s over this time. They’re splitting up.”

We like Nas and Kelis as a couple, hopefully they can work things out. We are not sure if there is anthor lady involved.

Jim Jones Denies Talking To Cam'ron

In a radio interview, Jones disputes Cam's tale of a 'cordial' phone call.

jim jones

It seems like that recent phone call between Camron and Jim Jones that fans were excited to hear about last week is a point of contention. After Camtold MTV News of the conversation, Jim Jones denied that the two had talked at all.

"I don't know what that's about," he told satellite radio's "Lip Service" hosts Angela Yee and Leah Rose Monday night. "Everyone's been telling me about that. I'm the only one who doesn't know about it. I don't know what he's talking about."

The Capo, who is gearing up to release his album Pray for Reign soon, said he is willing to have a call with Cam — "If the money's right. Hell, yeah."

Don't expect a long rebuttal from Killa Cam anytime in the future. He told MTV last week that he's not into having that kind of exchange, when asked about his staggering allegation in XXL magazine that Juelz Santana had become addicted to cough syrup. Santana vehemently denied those claims.

"He's upset; hey, I understand him being upset," Cam said of Santana's reaction. "I don't want to go back and forth with Juelz. ... Somebody asked me a question, 'Why did you and Juelz stop speaking?' or whatever the case may be. I don't know what happened on his behalf. That was the reason on my behalf, why I stopped speaking to him. That situation, I don't know if he's addicted or how much he was taking.

"I knew it going on, and I kinda shied away from him," Cam added, continuing to assert that his allegations were true. "If he's upset, I'm sorry he's upset. I wish him the best of luck, and I hope everything turns out. I'm not going back and forth with him."

The Diplomats haven't been on the same page since 2007. In the midst of musical battle with 50 Cent, Cam took an abrupt hiatus from his career to take care of his ailing mother who had suffered from more than one stroke. Even before then, though, things in the once tight-knit camp was starting to fall apart. Juelz accused Camron of taking advantage of him in their business dealings, while Jim Jones has siad that the lack of communication wasn't healthy for the crew's cohesiveness. Juelz and Jim appearing onstage with 50 Cent in the summer of 2007 didn't help matters either. Cam said in interviews at the time that it was a signal for him to move on.

Still, last week Cam'ron sounded like he was leaving the door open for a reunion one day. "[I]n the immediate future, I'm just doing Cam," he said after recounting the conversation that Jones now denies. "But you never know what can happen down the line."

The Jonai are on quite the losing streak this week!!

jonas brothers

After coming in at #2 in the U.S. box office for the weekend, a major disappointment, The Jonas Brothers have now also failed to nab the #1 spot for album sales, sitting at #3 with the soundtrack for their 3-D Concert Experience.

The Jonai sold 30,000 copies less than their label projected!!! They moved just 53,465 units.

So who came out on top??

Joe Jonas' ex, Taylor Swift!!

Ha!

Swift's latest album, Fearless, unloaded over 20,000 more copies than her former boyfriend's album, putting her at #1 for the 11th week now, selling 74,635 copies - a 19% gain from the week before.

Such sweet revenge for Mz. Swift!
